Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits to owning an alarm system?

An alarm system can give you a sense of security, peace of mind, and give you an awareness of your property when you are away.

What if I have an old alarm system in my home?

Most of the time we can take over the existing wiring and upgrade your system to a newer updated technology with smart phone access and control.

How long does a typical new install take?

The average time for a new installation is 2-3 hours.

What if I live in an apartment or I am leasing?

We offer leased systems with a month to month agreement or systems designed to meet the needs of any space.

How reliable is wireless security?

Wireless technology has advanced tremendously in recent years.  Each wireless device has a unique bar-code specifically programmed to your alarm panel.  Your system will notify you when you need to change any batteries (usually every 3-5 years).

Do I need an alarm permit?

Many cities have local law ordinances requiring a homeowner or business owner to register their alarm with the city police force after installation.  Cities enact alarm permit laws to help pay for false alarm costs. However, not all cities require alarm permits.  For more information on alarm permits, contact your local city police department.

Do I need a phone line for an alarm?

No, new technology allows for the alarm to communicate over a designated cell phone line that we provide with every installation.

What if someone cuts the power to my home?

All of our systems come equipped with a back-up battery system to protect you in the event of a short-term power loss as well as a notification to your phone.

Why should I choose Dempsey Alarms over other companies?

We are more personalized and pride ourselves in our customer service.  As a family run business, we maintain a more personal relationship with our customers.

Can I have an alarm without a monthly subscription?

Yes, we have options for systems that are installed without alarm monitoring services and we offer video surveillance systems that are self-monitored without an ongoing fee.

Alarm permits are required in most cities and are the responsibility of the home or business owner, including renewals if applicable. We can help you find the appropriate permit based on where the alarm is located (click on the link above). Each city has its own laws for alarm permits and false alarm fees.
